Sport may have been an important part of your life before surgery and you fear of being limited because of your ostomy. Do not worry, nothing prevents you from continuing your previous routine when your recovery will be completed or when you feel better.

No sport is actually forbidden. Naturally, contact sports (judo, boxing, karate, football, etc.) are not particularly recommended. For some sports it may be necessary to take precautions to avoid snatching the pouch.

Before each activity, remember to change or to empty your equipment. For more comfort and maximum flexibility, you should think about carrying a 1-piece equipment. In case of prolonged and intense efforts, remember to moisturize yourself.

When practicing water sports, it is important to choose a tailored bathing suit for men and a one piece bathing suite in a printed or draped fabric drape that allows greater discretion for ladies.

By taking the necessary precautions, the benefits of practicing sport can only be positive for your physical and moral well-being.

In medicine, a fistula is an abnormal connection between two epithelialized (a covering) surfaces. Fistulae are usually caused by injury or surgery, but they can also result from an infection or inflammation. Fistulae are generally a disease condition, but they may be surgically created for therapeutic reasons. The secretions may be normal bodily secretions or may be pathological as in the case of fistula abscess. Evacuation can be performed within or without the body. The passageway of the fistula is necessary in order to successfully treat and foresee results and /or complications. Fistulae are most common in the anal area, digestive system or urinary system.

Despite some beliefs, there is no reason to change your way of dressing after your surgery. You only need to be careful that clothing and underwear does not compress the pouch and that the elastic band of your underwear does not touch the stoma or on the pouch filter. Moreover, to avoid pouch swaying, it is better to wear your underwear above the equipment.

To increase your comfort, it is strongly advised not to tighten a belt on the stoma. Wearing braces can be a favorable option because it will make you more comfortable.

Note that surgery is not a curb to elegance. Today’s equipments are discreet and reliable. Depending on the position of your stoma, if it is at the left or at the right of your abdomen, you can find clothes that will enhance your body and while still making you comfortable. We invite you to visit our specialized boutique to purchase tailored clothing for your ostomy.

La stomothérapie

comprend 4 champs cliniques
